CLASSROOM PLACEMENT REQUESTS

Parents are invited to submit their 2015-2016 classroom placement requests to Mr. Carruthers via email (mcarruthers@deltasd.bc.ca). The deadline for these requests is Friday, May 29th. If you have already submitted a request but have not received a reply via email, we ask that you please re-submit your message to ensure that your input is considered.

SPORTS DAY

Sports Day at Hawthorne Elementary School is on Friday, June 5^th and we hope that you can join us for the fun. Students are invited to decorate bikes, trikes, wagons, skateboards, scooters, or other wheeled conveyances to participate in the Wheels Parade which will start at 9:25 a.m. The Super Heroes theme consists of GREEN–Boys–Robin & Girls-Raven (from The Teen Titans), Yellow–Boys–Wolverine & Girls–Jean Grey (from The X-Men), BLUE–Boys–Superman & Girls–Wonderwoman (from The Justice League), and RED–Boys–Iron Man & Girls–Black Widow (from The Avengers). Students are invited to dress up according to their team’s theme however please keep in mind that students will be very active throughout the day. (A schedule was sent home to parents earlier this week.) Parents are reminded to refrain from smoking on the school grounds while watching Sports Day events and we request that you please leave your dogs at home.

In case of poor weather, Sports Day will be held on Monday, June 8th. Postponement of Sports Day, if necessary, will be announced over CKNW (980 on your radio). Students’ Sports Day food orders will be served on Friday, June 5^th even if Sports Day is postponed; however, we hope to have the concession stand open on the Monday.

SCHOOL CLOTHING ORDER

We have had a great response to our School Clothing sale. This order has now been submitted to our supplier and we expect the items to arrive between June 15-19th. We will notify families when the order is delivered and distribute the clothing items to our students.

Almost three weeks ago Hawthorne hosted a very successful Spring Fair. This was a great community event as those in attendance enjoyed the warm weather and fun-filled environment. As you can imagine, this event would not be possible without the hard work of so many individuals. We would like to thank all the families who attended in support and provided donations of goods or time. We had countless volunteers putting in shifts thoughout the night and we would like to recognize the organizing committee of parents :

Jennifer Ranu, May Wong, Leanne Pryce, Amy Lockhart, Katie Barton, Laura Gilbert, Leigh Bartlett, Chris Lawton, Krista Roberts, Jasmeen Dick, Marlene Roberts and Karen Kolinsky.

As well, a special thank you goes out to Mrs. Kim Barnes and Mrs. Helen Sigouin who provided so much momentum for this event and dedicated a lot of time to making it work. Well done Hawthorne!

SCHOOL CALENDAR

The 2015-2016 school calendar was sent home this week with our students. Hopefully this will assist families with their planning for next year. The calendar will also be posted on our website.

MAY DAYS

Held in Memorial Park just steps from historic Ladner Village, the Ladner Pioneer May Days Fair (est. 1896) is one of British Columbia's largest free family fairs. This year's festivities were held last weekend. Hawthorne was proudly represented at this event by Jensyn Bourne who joined other girls from around Delta seeking the title of this year's May Day Queen. The festivities began on Friday evening and continued throughout the weekend with plenty of free family entertainment.
